OPEN BURNING RULES AND REGULATIONS

OPEN BURNING CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

 

Open burning with a PERMIT of the following material is allowed:

Brush, cane, driftwood, and forestry debris

Materials normally associated with the pursuit of agriculture,

such as fruit tree prunings, dead raspberry stalks, blueberry patches for pruning  purposes,

infected beehives for disease control.Trees and brush resulting from agricultural land clearing.

 Guidelines for conducting open burning

Burning must be at least 75 feet from all dwellings,

Burning must take place on land closest to the source of the material being   burned.

Before placing the materials to be burned remove all grass from area.

Before burning brush, dry by cutting and covering in advance.

While Burning

Someone MUST attend the fire until completely extinguished.

Have available a water supply, shovels or rakes for controlling the fire.

Burn the fire down to coals and spread the coals with snow, water, sand or    soil.

Burning of the following materials is PROHIBITED statewide:

Building materials,  brush, trees, cane, and driftwood from commercial and/or institutional land  clearing operations.

Grass, leaves, hay, stumps, and tires.

All burning will cease and fires shall be extinguished by 4:00 PM.

The Hamilton Fire Department reserve the right to  inspect the burning site at any time.

Cost of calls to extinguish fires after regular burning hours will be at the  property owners expense.

Burning season is from January 15 - May 1.

Owner MUST renew permit DAILY, 468-5513 PRIOR TO BURNING

Permits will be issued to property owners only.
